I don’t want to ruin the dress but: Shiny spots on a velvet dress, often caused by crushed pile from pressure, heat, or improper ironing, can usually be fixed by restoring the pile. Use steam (without touching the iron to the fabric), a soft brush, or gentle steaming to lift the fibers and remove the sheen. Avoid direct heat.
