This is an amazing new and original technique that Master Potter Hilario Quezada Jr is developing. At the time I acquired this beauty it was one of a very few that he had creating using a totally new technique that he is keeping secret. I keep wondering how he created this beauty, and the skull designs are all over the body of olla giving this piece a different appearance from every direction. As with many of the talented artists in Mata Ortiz they blend traditional Mexican heritage with contemporary ceramic artistry.
Hilario Quezada Jr's grandmother was Consolacion Quezada, the older sister of Juan Quezada. Hilario Quezada Jr is the son of Hilario Sr and Matilde Olivas. Hilario is an up-and-coming potter whose work is quite different and unique. He lives in Mata Ortiz in Northern Mexico.
