This piece commemorates the visit under Martin Lidstam (1935–65). This was regarded as one of Sweden’s leading male choirs. 75 singers were to leave Sweden on September 27 by chartered aircraft, with the major New York opening at Carnegie Hall on October 4. A Swedish specialist, drawing on archival material and information supplied by the choir's chairman, reports that KFUM-Kören instituted its own merit medal in 1954, with King Gustaf VI Adolf's approval. It was intended for choir members with at least 25 years of loyal service or people who had performed exceptional service to the choir. By about 1964, ONLY around 30 had been awarded. Made by C.C. Sporrong & Co. of Stockholm became a Purveyor to the Swedish Royal Court and Swedish museum collections also catalog historic silver medals specifically made by Sporrong & Co.
