Margaret Keane “baby face” original painting

Margaret Keane (1927–2022) was an American artist famous for her signature "big eyes" (or "Keane eyes") paintings—surreal, often emotional portraits of children, women, animals, or fantasy scenes with oversized, expressive doe-like eyes.Her works are primarily oil paintings on canvas (sometimes acrylic or mixed media), created in her San Francisco studio (later at Keane Eyes Gallery). She was married to the famous "Walter Keane" (the one who claimed credit for the "big eyes" craze), but she was the true creator. This was proven in a 1986 federal court "paint-off" trial in Hawaii: the judge ordered both to produce original big-eyed paintings in the courtroom as evidence. Margaret completed hers in about 53 minutes; Walter refused (claiming a sore shoulder). The jury sided with Margaret, awarding her damages (though the appeal reduced the amount).This painting measures approximately 5" x 8" and is framed to a measurement of approximately 17" x 19". The artwork is signed in the top right, "MDH Keane '79" and named on the verso.
