Vintage circa-1940 Knoxville, Tennessee book titled Picked-Up by G. L. “Fayte” Burnett, featuring what appears to be his handwritten signature in blue ink across the author portrait. This comb-bound volume measures approximately 9 x 5.75 inches and contains 136 numbered pages of humorous stories, rural sketches and regional observations. Dedicated to the boys of the John Tarleton Institute, a Knoxville home for dependent children, and sponsored and sold by the Knoxville Optimist Club. The dedication discusses the institution’s history, purpose and service to Knox County. An unusual piece of East Tennessee literature, Knoxville charitable history and local Americana.
Some wear to cover. The plastic comb binding is complete. The pages are tight on the comb with some tears where the pages meet the comb. See pictures for further details on condition.
