Set of 6 Johnson Brothers 'Old English' square dessert / salad plates with hand-detailed fruit centers on pastel color grounds: 2 mint green (peaches + grapes), 2 blush pink (oranges + berries), and 2 pale blue (pears + berries). Rope-twist edged rims. Made in England backstamp. Johnson Brothers has been making English earthenware in Staffordshire since 1883 and their 'Old English' shape (square with rope-twist rim, on a creamware body) ran through much of the mid 20th century. This fruit series with the pastel color grounds is one of the harder ones to find as a set. Six plates in three matched pairs of colors, all backstamped Johnson Bros Old English Made in England. Details: Maker: Johnson Brothers, Staffordshire England Pattern: Old English (square), pastel fruit series Set: 6 dessert/salad plates: 2 green, 2 pink, 2 blue Condition: Very good vintage Size: 7.5"
