Vintage Japanese Black Lacquer Music Jewelry Box Hand Painted Gold Pagoda Fuji

A stunning piece of mid-century Japanese craftsmanship! This jewelry box is finished in a high-gloss black lacquer. The lid showcases an exquisite, hand-painted traditional landscape featuring pagodas tucked into mountains, detailed with hand-applied gold metallic paint and vibrant coral-red autumn trees. The front panel features a matching landscape. Inside, the box features a built-in mirror on the lid and a divided interior lined in a textured burnt-orange ribbed fabric. The right compartment houses the original mechanical wind-up music movement mechanism under a protective cover. The underside of the box features a gold-stamped "MADE IN JAPAN" mark and the original metal wind-up key. The mechanical music box winds up and plays beautifully. The interior ribbed fabric is very clean with no notable stains, tears, or fading. The hinges are secure. Note vintage flaws: The black lacquer finish shows typical light exterior surface scuffing, edge wear, and a few small cosmetic dings/scrapes along the base feet and rear edges. There is a small patch of sticky tape residue/sticker residue on the left side panel. The original interior mirror glass shows light vintage clouding and silvering loss common with age, adding great antique character.
