This locker example of mid-Victorian memento mori jewelry, indicative of the high-quality craftsmanship of the late 1800’s. The silver body features a classic milgrain beaded border. The glass is in good condition and the clasp works perfectly. The reverse displays a stunning, unpolished iridescent "oil slick" patina—a hallmark of authentic antique silver. Also evident on the back is that original Victorian clasp was professionally updated during the mid-20th century to a secure rotating safety catch. This "historical marriage" ensures that the piece is not only an heirloom but also practical for modern wear. It also features a built-in bale at the top, allowing it to be worn as a statement pendant or a traditional mourning brooch. This piece is in excellent antique condition.
