French Neoclassical Ormolu-Mounted Cut-Crystal Baccarat Style Vase, 19th Century
Elegant French gilt bronze and cut crystal slender amphora-shaped vase in the neoclassical style. This elegant small-scale French Empire vase features a slender ovoid cut crystal glass finely mounted in fire-gilded bronze (ormolu), which is decorated at all corners with drapery tassels, and a removable ormolu top with tassel. The balanced proportions and clean lines are hallmarks of the Neoclassical aesthetic, which favored order and refinement over the decorative curves and flourishes of previous eras. Historically, this type of piece would have been used as a centerpiece or decorative object on a table or mantel.
Approx. Dimensions:
11”H x 3.5”W
8.25” tall without lid
It is unmarked, making it hard to date, but based on the style and patina I would estimate it to be from the early 1900s or earlier. It’s in beautiful condition! It is very sturdy without any wobbliness, cracks or chips! FABULOUS!
» Period: late 19th century
» Place of Origin: France
» Material: Gilt Bronze, Cut Crystal
