Original small-format hotel room fire safety notice printed on cardstock, measuring approximately 5 x 6 inches. The sign features Johnny the bellhop illustration and clear safety messaging directed at hotel guests, warning against careless smoking, unattended cigarettes, and smoking in bed. These notices were typically posted in hotel rooms, boarding houses, or motels and were meant to be read up close rather than displayed publicly.
This type of fire-warning signage became common during the 1930s–1940s, as smoking-related fires were a major concern in hospitality settings before widespread fire codes and sprinkler systems.
Simple cardstock construction with no easel or mounting hardware, consistent with temporary or replaceable in-room notices. Condition shows expected light age toning but remains clean and legible.
