Lot of 9 vintage color photographs documenting a visit to the Byodo-In Temple, Valley of the Temples, Kaneohe, Oahu, Hawaii — a replica of the 950-year-old Byodo-in Temple in Uji, Japan, dedicated in 1968. Location is confirmed by a close-up photo of the bronze dedication plaque, with its inscribed history and dedication text clearly readable. The set includes: two wide/angled exterior views of the temple with its distinctive red and white architecture and reflecting pond against a misty mountain backdrop; the temple seen through surrounding trees; a wooden bell house sheltering the large bronze temple bell; two near-duplicate close-ups of the gilded Amida Buddha statue on its lotus throne with ornate mandorla and visible tomoe crest; a close-up of koi fish in the temple's rock-lined pond; and a candid shot of a woman in a yellow top walking toward the temple. All photos are color prints exhibiting the heavy magenta/pink color shift typical of aged 1970s-80s color print stock; no borders or date stamps are visible on the photos themselves; the photos and fashion styling point to a 1970s-80s date. Condition: overall fair to good with consistent color fading/shift across the lot; no tears noted. Associated with the estate of USAF Col. Patricia Jane Harrington.
