Hi, it looks like the slider part that connects to the black part you show in the pic is missing. The part you show installs from the inside or underside of the lid, turn it sideways, then back straight, and it holds in place, then the top (missing) part attaches to the middle magnetically and slides to open and close.

I received the mug, and yes the top part of the lid is missing. No worries, it was a good deal.
