Lot of 12 original vintage color snapshots believed to have been taken in the Pyeongtaek/Songtan area of South Korea near Osan Air Base, circa the early-to-mid 1980s, probably around 1984–1986.
The photographs appear to document a community or recreational visit by U.S. Air Force-associated adults to a Korean children's home, orphanage, or similar institution. Images include group portraits of Korean children, teenagers and caregivers; American visitors; indoor and outdoor activities; athletic grounds; bicycles; and what appears to be a model-aircraft, craft, or recreational demonstration.
Three photographs clearly show a man wearing a custom red Korean-made Osan Air Base souvenir or tour jacket. The jacket is embroidered "SHADOW," "THE GOAT ROPIN'," and "OSAN AIR BASE." "Shadow" was likely a personalized nickname rather than an official unit designation.
The location may be Aehyangwon, also known as the Ae Hyang Child Welfare Center in Pyeongtaek, which has a longstanding connection with volunteers from Osan Air Base. However, the exact institution has not been conclusively confirmed.
Acquired from the Douglasville, Georgia estate of retired U.S. Air Force Colonel Patricia Jane Harrington. The exact photographer, date, event and identities of the people pictured are unknown.
Sold together as one original vintage photographic lot.
