Mud cloth is a traditional handwoven cotton fabric from Mali, hand-painted and dyed with fermented mud and plant-based pigments. Because of how it is made, each piece is unique. I purchased this vest from a craftsperson at the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival in the 1980s. Then front of the vest is pieced from mud cloth; the back and lining are satin. There are two vest pockets in front, and the back has straps and buckle that allow for a customized fit at the waist. Although the size is a men's Medium, the fact that the waist can be adjusted or cinched means it can fit a woman nicely as well. Measurements are as follows:
• width, measured from the top of one armhole (at the shoulder) across to the other: 13"
• width, measured from the base of one armhole, across to the other: 20"
• armhole space, measured from the top, diagonally, across to the bottom of the armhole: 20"
• side seam length, measured from the base of the armhole to the hem: 10-1/2"
• distance from the base of the "V" (above the buttons) in front to the bottom of the "V" (below the buttons): 11-1/2"
• width, measured straight across from the bottom of one side seam to the other: 21"
