Original 19th-century engraved portrait of Arthur Middleton (1742–1787), one of the Signers of the Declaration of Independence representing South Carolina. This finely engraved portrait was created by noted American engraver J. B. Longacre after a drawing by T. Middleton, based on a family portrait painted by renowned artist Benjamin West.
