This Antique Nippon Porcelain Set (c. 1891–1921) is authenticated by a rare red "Japan" backstamp on the base, dating it to the early 20th-century Japanese export era. Its elegant angular handles and fine porcelain craftsmanship make it a classic example of high-quality vintage tableware from the pre-1921 period.
"Nippon" porcelain refers to pieces manufactured in Japan primarily between 1891 and 1921. Following the McKinley Tariff Act of 1890, all items imported into the United States were required to be marked with their country of origin. Japanese artisans utilized the traditional word "Nippon" (which translates directly to Japan) to mark their exquisite export wares. This specific angular design dates back to the late Edwardian / early Art Deco transition era (circa 1910s), blending traditional hand-painted floral motifs with the bold, emerging structural styles of the new century.
