I removed the pillowcase, machine washed it with natural soap and baking soda, then rinsed with white vinegar,then air dried in the sun to sterilize (shown). The protective pillow cover is removable by full zip and machine washable. It's very soft and can be used alone, or you can put your own case on top of it.
