A truly spectacular piece of American Art Nouveau craftsmanship! This antique solid sterling silver specialty serving piece features the highly sought-after "Douvaine" pattern, patented in 1890 by the premier silversmiths Unger Brothers.
The handle boasts an incredibly detailed, high-relief mythological bearded mask (Neptune) surrounded by cascading, swirling organic tresses and waves characteristic of the peak Art Nouveau period. This ornate face is highly sought after by collectors of "Green Man" or mythological motif silver.
The elegant, slender stem features a tight structural twist leading down to a sharp, single arrow-shaped tine. While officially designed as a master butter pick to spear individual butter pats, its unique length and style also make it a fantastic, versatile conversation piece for serving cocktail garnishes, olives, or pickles.
Material: Solid Sterling Silver
Markings: Clearly stamped on the reverse with the signature Unger Brothers interlaced "UB" trademark circle, alongside "STERLING" and "925 FINE".
Measurements: Approximately 6 ¾ inches long.
Condition: Gorgeous antique condition with a stunning natural patina that beautifully highlights the deep dimensional details of the ornate handle. The single tine is straight and sharp. No monogram!
A rare and captivating statement piece for a collector of Victorian or Art Nouveau sterling flatware.
