Vintage Japanese Kutani / Satsuma Style Bird & Floral Vase (11")
Beautiful mid-century Japanese ceramic cylinder vase. This piece features a classic export design showcasing a pair of vibrant blue and brown songbirds perched among blooming red and pink camellias.
The artwork is highlighted with fine gold gilt outlining that catches the light beautifully. The vase has an all-over intentional cream crackle glaze finish. The underside is stamped with the traditional square Kutani (九谷) seal and "JAPAN".
Features & Dimensions:
- Height: 11 inches
- Diameter: 3.5 inches
Material: Ceramic / Earthenware
Markings: Signed Kutani on base with "JAPAN" export mark
Estimated Era: Mid-20th Century (c. 1950s-1970s)
Condition Report:
- Please review the photos carefully as they form part of the description.
- The dense web of fine lines across the surface is part of the intentional, decorative crackle glaze.
- Flaw: There is a vertical hairline crack extending downward from the top rim (clearly shown in the close-up photos). It is stable but goes through the rim.
- The unglazed bottom rim shows minor scuffing from display over the years.
Tip: Because of the hairline crack and the porous nature of crackle glazes, we recommend using an internal plastic liner if you intend to hold water for live flowers.
This is a wonderful, substantial statement piece perfect for vintage home decor, mantel display, or Asian art collectors.
