Rare 1930 vintage collector's hardcover edition of Rudyard Kipling's novel "The Light That Failed," published by Three Sirens Press in New York. Printed in the United States by J.J. Little and Ives Company, New York. Marbled decorative page edges. Gold gilt design and text on spine. 241 pp. The first novel ever written by Kipling, this story follows a war artist and painter who goes blind, and his unrequited love for his childhood playmate, Maisie. "The Light That Failed" is loosely based on Kipling's own life. Satisfactory used vintage condition for a book almost 100 years old. Wear and fading to spine, front binding is loose and cracked (can be repaired). No writing inside book. Some staining and tanning to pages. Red splotchy ink staining on back cover, pictured. Sewn in bookmark is detached but included. Condition is reflected in price accordingly for this rare antique book. Measures approx 8.25" tall and 5.5" wide.
