Antique “Madonna and Child” art photography print from Knaffl Brothers This amazing piece has been in my collection for many years It is all original, with the print protected under glass inside a gold oval wood frame Here’s a little history: This portrait was photographed in 1899 at the Knaffl studio in Knoxville, Tennessee and later exhibited in Chautauqua, New York An art critic who reviewed the piece in the August 1899 issue of arts magazine Pen & Brush wrote, "The artist has had the extreme good fortune to find a model of pure and almost perfect features and expression… I would not have believed it possible to do anything so poetic and ethereal directly from nature” The Mother was portrayed by 19-year-old Emma Fanz 
Fanz was widowed at a young age and remarried but never had children of her own She became a suffragette, demonstrating for women's rights in Washington Baby Jesus was portrayed by Joseph Knaffl's infant daughter Josephine Josephine grew up and married She passed away in 1970 with little memory of the day she portrayed Baby Jesus The paper on the back of the piece has aged and is very fragile It has the original wire hanger on the back Measures approx 9 1/4” x 7 1/4” Beautiful antique condition with age appropriate wear, there is one spot near the bottom of the frame where the gold paint has chipped (photo 6) Limited bundling to allow careful packaging Please see all photos as part of the description WhtBkS 5/22/26
