This is an amazing Victorian sterling silver match safe or vesta. This holds strike anywhere matches ( still sold today) you strike the match on the bottom. The ridges are called the striker. This is an extra fancy. It’s also a locket. It has a tiny hidden secret button that when pulled down opens the hidden compartment. You pull down on the button and turn the vesta to the side and the door opens. This area was meant to be hidden. It could hold a photo or even a small gold coin. This was a useful hidden secret. The inside of the locket compartment has a lovely original gold wash. Please research these.
