The history of Paul Fredrick began decades before the brand name existed, rooted in a family tradition of Pennsylvania shirtmaking.
Roots: The Fleetwood Shirt Company (1951)
The brand's lineage dates back to 1951, when Lenny Abrams founded the Fleetwood Shirt Company in Pennsylvania. For nearly 35 years, the company operated as a high-quality private label manufacturer, crafting dress shirts for upscale department stores and specialty retailers across America.
Launch of the Paul Fredrick Brand (1986)
In 1986, Abrams’ son-in-law, Paul Frederick Sacher, decided to leverage the family’s manufacturing expertise to sell directly to consumers.
The Debut:
The brand launched with a small 2”x 2” advertisement in The Wall Street Journal, offering premium cotton dress shirts straight from the factory.
Direct-to-Consumer Growth:
The success of these early ads led to the creation of a full-color mail-order catalog and eventually a website, bypasssing traditional retail storefronts.
Expansion:
By the late 1980s and 90s, the company added suits, sport coatsp trousers, and accessories to its catalog.
Today, the brand remains known for its "Perfect Fit Guarantee" and its extensive range of shirt options, including over 50 exact size combinations and three distinct fits (Classic, Tailored, and Slim).
