This vibrant, hand embroidered piece is a stunning example of Guatemalan folk art from Santiago Atitlán, a village on Lake Atitlán known for its “bird tree” textiles.
Details:
• Size: Approx. 22” L x 15” W
Perfect as a large placemat, wall hanging, can be used to make a decorative pillow, or centerpiece for your coffee table.
• Material: Handwoven cotton cloth with intricate hand embroidery
• Design: Features 25+ colorful tropical birds perched among lush green branches. Each bird is uniquely stitched with vibrant threads, blues, reds, yellows, greens, and more
• Condition: Excellent vintage condition. No stains or tears. Raw edges are unfinished, as originally made by the artisan
• Origin: Handmade in Santiago Atitlán, Sololá, Guatemala by Tz’utujil Maya artisans.
This is not a mass produced item. The dense stitching and detailed shading make each bird come alive. The piece took many hours to complete and would make a beautiful boho, eclectic, or global décor accent.
Perfect for collectors of Latin American textiles, bird lovers, or anyone wanting to add a pop of color and culture to their home.
Note: Colors may vary slightly due to lighting and screen settings. This is an artisan textile and minor variations are part of its handmade charm.

I purchased a piece very similar to this in 1997 when in Guatemala. It was lost in a move. Am looking for a replacement, but the one I had was on traditional Santiago Atilan fabric (squares made from red stripes). In each box was a different object, food item, flower, bird or bug. Would you happen to have a wall hanging like that or could look for one for me please? Thanks
