Clockwork, wind-up novelty toy. The chick pecks the ground while the wings flap slightly.
Made of tinplate painted yellow with red. A wire key coming from the side is used to wind. Works great, the chick skitters around, peaking the ground as his wings flap.
Likely produced in Japan during the 1940s-1950s. About 1¾" tall, 2½" long, paint somewhat worn, vintage working condition.
