VINTAGE 5" CARL JOHAN TRYGG WOOD CARVING • OLD MAN WEARING COAT • SWEDEN

Vintage Trygg flat-plane hand-carved wood figure of old man in a coat (perhaps an old sailor), believed to have been carved by the patriarch of the family, C. J. Trygg. This is definitely a signed Trygg carving; and based upon a signature comparison to known C. J. Trygg carving and carvings by his sons, C.O. Trygg and Lars Trygg, it appears to be one of the elder Trygg's carvings. C.J. Trygg died in 1954, and many of his carvings similar to this one were done in the 1930s. There's a faint signature but I can't make it out. There's a small chip in the wood please see photo. Over all it's in great vintage condition.
