This is a stunning, early-era piece from the iconic Australian brand. A rare vintage Helen Kaminski (possibly by her in these early years) Handwoven Raffia Bag dating between 1983
and 1985 before the brand was featured in Vogue and manufacturing was moved to Madagascar. Please note: this bag is OLD. Do not expect a supple new bag, it’s in excellent vintage condition, but it’s not a supple
new bag.
Design & Craftsmanship:
Material: 100% High-quality natural raffia with a beautiful tight-knit crochet.
Details: Features a unique mandala-style circular base (10" diameter) for incredible structure and capacity.
Strap: Durable shoulder strap with a built-in leather comfort panel and striking silver-tone hardware embellishments (the Kaminski seeds) on both sides.
Interior: Includes a dedicated internal pouch where the original "Made in Australia" label is sewn.
Measurements:
Height: 15" (excluding straps)
Base Diameter: 10"
Strap Drop: 14"
Condition:
Excellent vintage condition! The raffia is remarkably well-preserved with no fraying or holes. Please note: There are some ink stains on the leather portion of the strap—the underside (see photos). Aside from this, the bag is exceptionally clean and well-preserved for its age. Someone braver than I may be able to remove these ink stains, but I was hesitant to mess with history.
