This jacket is a reproduction of the 1963 1st Tropical Combat Uniform. The TCU (Tropical Combat Uniform) can be broadly divided into three generations: the first generation used cotton fabric with external buttons and shoulder tabs. The second generation continued with cotton fabric but switched to internal buttons. The third generation introduced more durable ripstop fabric and eliminated the shoulder tabs and rear waist tabs. Unlike the OG-107 utility uniform of the same period, the TCU was a new combat uniform designed for the hot climates of Southeast Asia. It was inspired by the WWII M-42 paratrooper jacket, retaining the characteristic slanted pockets on chest. However, the focus of the first-generation TCU jacket was on functionality and comfort, featuring lightweight, ripstop cotton fabric that is durable and breathable, helping soldiers cope with harsh field conditions. The jacket also had adjustable cuffs and waist tabs for a personalized fit. This jacket is made from 7.5 oz cotton, which is slightly thicker than the original version.
