He has been working with glass since 1968 and is particularly known as a master of red glass, which is a difficult color to achieve. Studio and Location: Carlson works from his own studio in Northern California, assisted by his wife, Karen. He previously moved from the Bay Area to Oregon, where he built his studio. Artistic Style: He often uses simple, elegant forms to display his colors, sometimes adding random patterns of gold or silver leaf to the surface. He creates depth in his work by blowing each piece in three layers, often with an opaque white layer in the middle.
