White gold adjustable box chain with heart charm included. Purchased at Na Hoku’s home store in Honolulu in 2016. Worn occasionally over the years. Though black pearl pendants are still sold by Na Hoku, the diamond and koa bail is no longer sold, making this a rare and precious piece.
Koa wood [Acacia koa] is a rare, high value hardwood that grows only in Hawaii. Known for its rich colors and fine grain, it was historically used by Hawaiian royalty — “koa” means warrior — for canoes, surfboards, and sacred objects. It is now used in fine jewelry, musical instruments, and luxury furniture, on a limited basis.
