The shape seems, at first, square. But the corners are cut off, so I guess they're really octogons. The big stone is framed by an edging of sterling, in a twisted pattern. The sterling on these earrings looks like gold--is gold in color. There are 2 small CZ stones, and 1 smaller CZ, forming a triangle, below the octogon. I think the stone is 7mm. It could possibly be 6mm or 8mm. The pin of the pierced earring goes through the earlobe piercing, and then the clip closes to secure the earring (I just learned that this is called an Omega-back earring. It is usually found on Fine Jewelry.). I love that Judith Ripka designed these earrings so that the owner is unlikely to lose them by wearing them.
