Traditional Turkish Vintage 1940s-1950s Large Beautiful Cotton Scarf edged with Turkish Oya, needlelace and beading. Fun, elegant and flattering to the young and mature neck. Apprx 30”30” to 36”x36”
Traditional Turkish Oya is a unique form of needlework, lacework and beads and historically was used to edge headscarves and Sashes. The Oya patterns (needle lace) served as a sophisticated "secret language" of symbolic meanings for women to communicate emotions, social status, and relationship dynamics without speaking. These rare, collectable vintage scarves have been packed away in my collections.
Perfect for casual and dressy looks for suits, dresses, skirts, pants, tops and shorts. Wear it as a scarf a multitude of ways or as headband. It generates many compliments and you get to tell a story about it’s his historical significance. All needle work and beading done by hand, which is many, many hours of hand work. These travel and wash by hand cold water beautifully. Try more than different colored scarves to go with your travel outfits. They will last for many years. You will be a part of preserving the historical crafts of Turkey.
