Antique Hand Carved Bone 2" Dress or Scarf Clip Art Deco

Item:  Hand carved 2" dress or scarf clip.  It is carved in a floral or starburst motif, with a central raised area and radiating petals or rays. The natural porous texture and the creamy, aged color are consistent with carved bone.  The item is most likely made of carved animal bone, likely bovine. It displays small dark specks which are characteristic of the vascular channels (osteocytes) found in bone, a feature absent in true ivory.  These types of carvings were commonly used as dress clips or brooches in the early to mid-20th century, particularly during the Art Deco period.  It has a Japan mark on the back.
