A quietly evocative piece from the Recollections of the North collection, this hand-thrown ceramic dish captures a soft, atmospheric landscape in layered blue wash. At its center, a small Arctic figure emerges—subtle, contemplative, and deeply rooted in northern storytelling.
Dated 1985, this piece reflects a moment in Canadian studio pottery where narrative and landscape intertwined—an homage to the vastness of the North and the lives shaped by it.
From the artist:
“The inspiration for this pottery came from my previous career when, as a pilot, I flew over that vast area of Canada known simply as ‘the North.’ As I visited the towns and villages dotted about this huge land and looked upon the landscape, I came to know and respect the people and wild creatures that dwell there. Now I am expressing these memories in my pottery, memories of majestic polar bears, seals, arctic birds and lonely Inuit hunters.”
