Scottish Terriers (often called “Scottie dogs”) are traditionally associated with courage, loyalty and independence. Scottie dog pins originated as popular fashion accessories during the 1930s and 1940s, fueled by the breed's high popularity and its status as a cultural icon of the era. Their popularity was driven by the breed's distinctive silhouette, the influence of President Franklin D. Roosevelt's famous Scottie dog, "Fala," and widespread use in Art Deco design. The pins were often worn as charming, "feisty" accessories for women, sometimes appearing in patriotic, wartime-era styles.
Double Scottie designs were produced by several notable vintage costume jewelry brands. Though the origins of this piece are unknown, it likely dates from the mid-to-late 20th century.
