Vintage from the 1940's.
Scottie dog Dresser valet caddy.
These were used for many small items; this one was intended for the smoker.
The box was to hold a pack of cigarettes.
Match holder/candle holder.
Ashtray and change compartment.
Even a piece of wood to hold a match box striker.
These are becoming very hard to find.
Very good condition.
The Scottie dog looks like he had something in his mouth, now just some glue.
13 1/2" Wide X 6 1/2" Deep X 6 1/2" Tall
Very cool, Great conversation starter.
The origins of tramp art are somewhat obscured, with the term "tramp work" first used in 1959 by a Pennsylvania folklorist. The art form was popular from the 1870s to the 1940s, with its most common forms being boxes and frames. Tramp art was made by a diverse group of people, including farmers, factory workers, miners, carpenters, and shopkeepers, rather than just itinerant individuals. The art form was characterized by its use of simple tools and the reclamation of cheap or available wood, such as that from cigar boxes and shipping crates.
