Offered is a pair of vintage Chinese carved soapstone seal chops, each measuring approximately 2 5/8 inches tall. Both seals feature detailed Foo Dog (guardian lion) finials at the top and square bases carved with inscriptions.
One seal is carved with the word “DRAGON” and stylized Chinese characters above. The second seal is carved with the word “EXCELLENT” along with decorative Chinese characters.
The stone has a soft pale green / celadon tone typical of soapstone, with natural color variation throughout. The carving shows nice detail in the guardian lion figures and clean cut lettering on the bases.
These seals were traditionally used with red cinnabar ink paste for stamping artwork, documents, or calligraphy. They also make attractive Asian-inspired desk or display pieces.
