Lovely vintage pendant featuring a replica Athenian Tetradrachm coin. The coin depicts the profile head of the goddess Athena, the goddess of wisdom, foresight, and war. Ancient Greeks believed that Athena (patron saint of Athens) appeared among people in the form of an owl. The all-watching and all-knowing owl became the embodiment of the creative wisdom sent to humankind. This symbol has been used on Greek coins since the 5th century BC and, therefore, also became associated with wealth. I have done all the "home" tests for and believe it to be silver but it does not have a 925 marking. I regret I did not ask more questions, so cannot really guarantee the actual composition.
