1891 Antique Sewing Attachments For White Machines, Patent 1891 Greist, Complete

This early & scarce sewing machine attachments box was designed for WHITE sewing machines, manufactured by John M. Greist who played a significant role in the development and progress of modern-day sewing of the era. Entrepreneurial John Greist is the inventor behind the iconic wooden "Puzzle Box" for Singer treadle machines. Greist Manufacturing went on to produce sewing machine attachments for many different sewing machine makers, including Morse and White. This Art Nouveau metal black box has wonderful lines and features a gold litho top. In signature Greist style this box is lined with purple velvet, much like his puzzle boxes designed for Singer. Many of the parts are stamped "Patented July 7-91" (referring to 1891) and some of the larger attachments are stamped "The Greist Mfg. Co. Pat. Apd. For Newhaven, Conn. U.S.A.". Set appears to be complete. All six hemmer feet are present (held in place under the lid). Set comes with an antique Greist Ruffler, a Tuckmarker attachment, feed cover plates, and other attachment feet. While designed for antique "WHITE" brand of sewing machines, these could also be used for antique SINGER machines. *Please note, these attachments pre-date any low-shank Singer machines Measures 7" x 3" x 2". CONDITION: Outside of box is in very fine vintage condition; very little wear to the paint and the gold text is mostly clear throughout.
