Vintage Alaska Native mixed-media artwork featuring a hand-painted sled dog on a carved soapstone panel, mounted in a solid wood frame. The piece is signed by the artist (appears to read AACTC) and retains its original “Alaskan Gifts by Native Alaskans – Made in Ketchikan, Alaska” label.
This type of artwork was commonly produced during the 1960s–1970s through Alaska Native arts and crafts cooperatives in Southeast Alaska, combining traditional materials with imagery intended for the collector and tourist market. The result is an authentic Indigenous-made decorative artwork, valued for craftsmanship and regional history rather than ceremonial use.
The soapstone panel is hand carved and painted, and the work is presented in its original wood frame, which is numbered on the lower right. A strong example of mid-century Alaska Native cooperative art with desirable sled dog imagery.
