Gorgeously crafted pale gray blue leather lace up side zip handmade boots. The story: I have seen many shoes and boots in my lifetime. I am also a lover of French craft guilds which have honed their expertise in the art of dyes and color over centuries to the degree that there will be 40 shades of pink silk thread in a notions store in Paris Each exquisite. So it was the color of these -- a very "Fragonard" (18th Century) pale gray-blue that first caught my eye and the workmanship was delicate and ever so thoughtful. But no "brand." I found a crest on the soles with a lot of words in Italian [S. Fratelita Calsolare Regnati] and I had to research what all those words meant. What I found tickled me:these boots are by a master craftsperson in one of Italy's oldest most respected cobblers' guilds - aka "confraternity" founded in Venice in the 1200's! They are a cobblers' co-fraternity of master cobblers who work in only one region of Italy called Riviera del Brenta known for exquisite footwear. But the best part is the "S" in the words on the seal stands for "Sacred." These artisans consider their work sacred and it shows.Marked 41.These measure as a 10M. Heel 2" Width 3.5" Height 5.5" Length measured against wall w tape measure underneath 11" (Yes - they have moderate wear in some places and a water stain on the front of one boot. (pls see pictures) but these are special in a way no other footwear I have seen are. "Sacred" Art.

These are fascinating. Thanks for explaining the background of these. Going to try to purchase as soon as my budget allows.

@shoesandhats WHAT a lovely message. So happy someone appreciaites the background ... I used to design jewelry and learned about the artisans who made 18th C buttons who put their hearts & souls into their work like this. If you like stuff like this look up 18th C French buttons - to die for! And also if you wish to make an offer on these I will see if I can afford to accept it no matter what it is😀Someone who feels as you do should have them!❤ HAPPY weekend!

@aperitif Thank you! I made an offer so you can see what you think. Do you have any idea of the year the shoes were made? The color is divine.

P.S> Just saw your question about when boots were made. I wish I knew but do not. Also I tried to get you a picture of the cobblers' fraternity "seal" but because of digital formats & Poshmark's tech parameters it will not upload to this site. If you look up seal for S, Fratelita Calsolare Regnati you can find it - it is wonderful.

@aperitif I found the seal online! So interesting. I’m an artist (sculpting, mainly) and shoes like these are little works of art to me. But I also can’t wait to wear these!

Am up late - and how COOL is this? Of COURSE you are an artist! Would LOVE to see your work. Maybe you can email pics later -- If UR like me "digital" is not my gig -- tactile,IS!!! I am now trying to mix this pale boot-color using common dyes -to dye clothing. If you know the line Magnolia Pearl(wish I could afford!) they do amazing magical colors. Back to sleep. Boots will be on the way this morning🌺
