Hardback, 224 pages, published 1909. Good antique condition with cosmetic flaws (see all pics). This is a former library copy, with a couple of dog-ears, a few pages with small tears and nicks, and various small stains and smudges here and there. You'll see that the cover shows a bit of wear, particularly on the corners, but overall this is in great shape for its age (hope I look this good at 116 🧐) and perfectly readable. No missing pages, no highlighting, and the only writing is that of the librarian's cataloguing notes (see pics). "Imogen, the daughter of British King Cymbeline, goes against her father’s wishes and marries the lowborn gentleman Posthumus, instead of the King's oafish stepson Cloten. Cloten's mother (the new Queen) is a villainous and murderous woman who has made the king her puppet. Posthumus is sent into exile in Italy, where he encounters a smooth-tongued Iachimo, who argues that all women are naturally unchaste, and he makes a wager with Posthumus that he will be able to seduce Imogen. Iachimo goes to the British court and, failing in his initial attempt to convince the princess to sleep with him, resorts to trickery. He hides in a large chest and has it sent to her room...." I'll stop there, lest I give away the whole plot. 🙂 What cracks me up about this edition is the text by Henry Hudson. I've included some of his Introduction pages in the pics--he had an acerbic way of analyzing this work that I find quite funny. 💀🗡️
