This piece was part of the classic Epi color lineup during the brand’s 1990s expansion of the Epi range. “Zipangu” comes from Marco Polo’s word for Japan, meaning “Land of Gold.” LV used this name to evoke a rich, golden, East Asian–inspired palette. Similar to a warm caramel. Louis Vuitton never used the word “wristlet” in 1990s catalog language. Instead, they used “Pochette” for small structured leather goods and “Dragonne” to indicate a removable or fixed wrist strap.
