ERIC "Freeflow" DARNELL
Boomerang Wizard, Champion, Inventor & Coach
When folks think of Eric Darnell, it is usually as an inventor, boom maker, coach and ambassador, not as a competitor. His inventions over the years, in addition to the many variants of boomerangs he has made, have included the Freeflow stove, from which he gets his nickname, as well as windmills, sports helmets and saddles.
Eric became an accidental competitor as a result of his desire to conquer the aerodynamics of boomerangs after doing the same with gliders. The problem of course is that the science is completely different, yet he worked away, learning from his failures and finally mastering boom airfoils, tuning and materials.
He met Ben Ruhe at the Smithsonian boomerang festival in 1974, and won several events there in the years to come. His boomerangs have secured 25 US and World records in the past.
He has crafted 200,000 wooden booms before he switched to plastics due to health reasons. He set 3 World Records and has coached the US Team (with me) to a World Championship in 2002, finally breaking the hold of the Germans after 6 years (3 wins) of dominance.
****This is a rare wood layered Boomerang from the 80's, it's not dated, but this was part of a large vintage collection of boomerangs and they all were dated in the 80's.
Looks to be brand new, no scratches or damage at all, see pics
