This sculpture looks like a master ceramic vessel from 6th century excavated from Geumnyeongchong Tomb in Gyeongju. The master is wearing a cone-shaped hat with bands and ornaments, along with armor on his lower body. He is carrying luggage strapped to his back and is holding a bell in his right hand, as if to guide his master. Why were they shaped in horse? As much as the horses were important for transportation, the Silla people believed the horses guide the deceased to the afterlife As it is a vessel, each holds about 240 ml of liquid which would probably be used to serve alcohol or water by Silla royal family. *Horse-rider-shaped Vessel (Master), Silla (early 6th century), Material: Unglazed, dark gray earthenware/clay.
