Rare 1930s McClelland Barclay Sterling Silver Horse Brooch. Measuring 2" x 1 1/2" this Vintage Handmade Pin features a Mare caring for her Foal encircled by beaded detailing. Barclay Jewelry Co. was founded in 1947 by designer Louis Mark along with Alvin and Robert Rice after their split with Rice-Weiner Co. They appear to have had manufacturing facilities in Providence, Rhode Island, but also a sales office on Fifth Avenue in New York according to their periodical advertising. Some McClelland Barclay jewelry designed by American illustrator McClelland Barclay for Rice-Weiner was only marked, Barclay. The lettering used on these marks is not in script, however, and has styling that is more Art Deco in nature. McClelland Barclay jewelry is older and usually sells at a higher price point than Barclay jewelry.
