Boyds Bears was founded in 1984 by Gary and Tina Lowenthal, starting as a handmade stuffed bear line in a small antique shop in Boyds, Maryland. They quickly gained popularity for their high-quality, handcrafted plush bears, which became a beloved collector's item. Boyds Bears was acquired by Enesco in 2008, who retired the line in 2014.
