This vintage mid-century modern brutalist glass decanter and glasses set by Felipe Derflingher is a truly special and unique addition to any collection. Crafted in mid-century Mexico City by modernist artisan and glassblower Felipe Derflingher, the set features his signature style known as “imprisoned glass,” also referred to as caged glass. This technique involves welding brass metal—cut with diamond, square, or circular openings—into cylindrical forms, then hand-blowing molten glass from recycled bottles into the structure, allowing the glass to bulge through the cutouts. The metal is then heat-treated to achieve a darkened, oxidized finish, evoking the look and feel of medieval craftsmanship. By merging metalwork with reclaimed glass, Derflingher created pieces that embody a raw yet refined beauty within a modernist brutalist aesthetic. His distinctive works have been collected by discerning clients around the world.
