Schiaparelli cellophane straw hat with stylized bow - vintage 1950s

A rare tongue in cheek, archival piece from the Parisian House of Schiaparelli. This wide brimmed hat is made from cellophane straw - a material utilized by mid-century milliners to achieve that lacquered look. The glossy hues of purple in certain light, but mostly black, is cool put the star here is undoubtedly the dramatic inverted straw bow , attached at the crown and also poking out below. Obviously, a nod to Schiaparelli’s iconic trompe l’oeil bow, her renowned signature motif which is echoed here - also in trompe l’oeil effect - through its clever placement & the structural design of this hat.
