Book: Guards! Guards! by Terry Pratchett

Paperback, 2013. A bit of cosmetic wear & tear around the cover edges (see pics), but otherwise this copy is like new. The spine is solid and all pages are intact. No writing, no stains. This is the first novel I ever picked up by Pratchett and one of the funniest books I've ever read in my life. This title was my gateway drug to Discworld and I actually have an older copy I bought new that's now dilapidated. I'm keeping that one, I come back to it every couple of years. As to the story: Ankh-Morpork is a city like many others, with endless dangers haunting its urban depths. Life is cheap and death lurks around every drunken cobblestoned corner. But now comes a new terror. An inept secret brotherhood is engineering an elaborate plan to seize power through the use of an unexpected weapon: an extinct dragon to do their evil bidding. If the carnage goes well, they'll soon be installing a puppet to control the city. And the City Watch is a joke, so they shouldn't be any hindrance. But what of the dragon itself? That beast may have a few ideas of its own, about what sort of terror it wants to bring down on humanity.... This is the first book in the City Watch sub-series but Discworld books can be read in any order. A fantasy medieval murder mystery! Pratchett's novels are part satire, part politics, part philosophy. This one was first published in 1989. If you're familiar with blockbuster movies from that era you'll appreciate the spoofing he throws into his cauldron. 🧙‍♂️
